Engage in Compassion

Compassion, to me, means sharing in the giving of ourselves.

It goes beyond religion, or faith.

It goes beyond ourselves too, in that, to be compassionate, we are selfless and whole.  Detached from the outcome of our giving.

Sharing in a common aim.. – to be happy.

“I believe that the very purpose of our life is to seek happiness. That is clear. Whether one believes in religion or not, whether one believes in this religion or that religion, we all are seeking something better in life. So, I think, the very motion of our life is towards happiness…” – Dalai Lama

Sharing with each other.

“It is lack of love for ourselves that inhibits our compassion toward others. If we make friends with ourselves, then there is no obstacle to opening our hearts and minds to others.”

We don’t generally feel compassion about things, do we?

It is other people that inspire us to give to each other.

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” – Dalai Lama

“The common element is people.” – John Suart

And as people,

I ask you to engage in compassion..

Benefits from zenhabits.net:
Why develop compassion in your life? Well, there are scientific studies that suggest there are physical benefits to practicing compassion — people who practice it produce 100 percent more DHEA, which is a hormone that counteracts the aging process, and 23 percent less cortisol — the “stress hormone.”
